A Level 4 USA Hockey Certified Coach, Sami has been the Penn Women’s Ice Hockey Head Coach for three seasons. Before Penn, Sami coached at the NCAA Level and for U15 and U18 USA Hockey National Development Camps. She is also an experienced hockey player herself, having played for Boston University as an undergraduate. She’s been involved in hockey for over 20 years as a player and a coach, and continues to contribute to the community by working at the youth level and helping build hockey on the international stage.
John is in his third season coaching the Penn Women’s Ice Hockey team. A Philadelphia native, he played youth hockey in the area, and also played for Penn State’s club team as an undergraduate. He has 18 years of combined experience as a coach and player at the youth, adult, and collegiate levels, and is a Level 3 USA Hockey Certified Coach. With the team, John primarily focuses on skill development, skating, and stickhandling technique.
Joe began coaching at Penn during the 2013-14 Season, working with the Goalies and Defense. Before switching to goalie and defense, he began his hockey career as a winger in 1978. Joe played for Penn State as an undergraduate, and today he still plays both positions.
Over his time with Penn Women’s Ice Hockey, Joe has grown to especially appreciate the camaraderie of the team. He loves to see players and goaltenders develop through the season, and always embraces the opportunity to teach a new player how to master the sport.
Kieran has been on the Penn Women’s Ice Hockey coaching staff for two years now, but has been involved in the program for much longer. She played for the team for all four of her years as an undergraduate, and even served as President. Her hockey career began over 10 years ago, when she started by playing for the Warwick Lady Patriots, and since then she has been working to both develop her own skills as a forward as well as grow Women’s Hockey at the collegiate level.
Alyssa’s hockey career began when she joined the Penn Women’s Ice Hockey Team as an undergraduate, and she has been dedicated to both the sport and the program since. As an undergraduate, she contributed to the team as both a forward and a goalie, and served terms as Treasurer and President. She is now in her second year on the coaching staff, and is particularly instrumental in encouraging our players who are new to hockey. Beyond coaching, Alyssa is the Women’s Chair on the Penn Hockey Alumni Board, and works to develop the program by fundraising, and connecting with women who have been on the team in the past to foster a closer knit Alumni network.
